What we do

Residential and commercial renovations, new builds and extensions

Residential and commercial projects: one contractor, one point of contact, from first drawing to final walkthrough.

House Extensions

Rear, side and wrap-around extensions that read as part of the original house. We manage design coordination, planning, build and finish so the join is invisible.

More on house extensions

New Builds

One-off houses from foundations to handover: groundworks, frame, roof, first and second fix and interiors, delivered to a fixed programme with clean certification.

More on new builds

We also take on commercial refurbishments and fit-outs, run the same way, with one point of contact managing every trade.

Trades we manage for you

Every trade on your project, coordinated by us

These are capabilities within a managed project, not separate bookings. You deal with one number; we sequence and supervise the rest.

Plant Hire

Plant and machinery hire for construction, groundworks and landscaping across Kildare, Dublin, Meath, Westmeath and Offaly, with or without an operator.

Groundworks

Site clearance, excavation, foundations, drainage and hard landscaping, set out correctly before anything goes above ground.

Carpentry

First and second fix carpentry: floors, stairs, doors, roof and structural timber, set out by a time-served carpenter.

Joinery

Built-in wardrobes, panelling, bespoke furniture and fine trim, made and hung to a standard that still reads right in ten years.

Kitchens & Interiors

Kitchens, utilities, wardrobes and interior finishes installed, scribed and levelled as part of the wider programme.

Painting & Decorating

Interior and exterior finishing done properly: surfaces prepared, edges clean, and a finish that still looks right years later.

Why us

The difference? We turn up.

Everyone has a story about a job that went wrong. We built this company around the three things people dread most, and the way we run every job answers each one.

They will show up.

The trades that vanish. The job that drags on for months. We agree a programme in writing and we hold to it. When we say we will be there, we are there.

The price will hold.

No creeping bills, no “it will be a bit more than we said.” You get a written fixed price before we start, and anything that changes is priced and agreed with you before the work is done.

You will not have to run it.

No chasing the plumber or standing between trades. One point of contact manages every trade from first drawing to final walkthrough, so the job is ours to run, not yours.

Behind every job we run on proper systems, so nothing gets missed, every message is logged, and you are kept in the loop at every stage.

How we work

Skilled tradesmen, an agreed programme, one point of contact.

The work is done by people who have been doing it for decades, and it happens on the days we said it would.

Old-fashioned work ethic

We show up when we say we will, every time.

Solution-driven

Every job has a way through. We find it.

Humbly confident

Decades of experience, no ego.

About us

Our story

Donie Murphy set up Donie Murphy Plant Hire in 1976. His son Noel grew up in it, learning to operate machinery and handle timber as a boy, long before it was a career.

Noel qualified as a carpenter and project manager, and built Donie Murphy Contracting to carry the family name into residential and commercial work. Same name over the door, same standards behind it. The company runs every job through one point of contact, with its own tradesmen and a managed team of trades behind them.

A third generation is coming up behind. Noel's son, Donie Jr, is three, and the diggers have his full attention.

Questions

Renovation, new build and extension questions, answered

How long does a full house renovation take?
A full renovation of a typical three or four bedroom house in Kildare or Dublin usually runs 12 to 20 weeks on site, depending on structural work, rewiring and the level of finish. Extensions typically add four to eight weeks. You get a written programme with your estimate and we work to it.
Do I need planning permission for an extension?
Many rear extensions in Ireland fall under exempted development if the floor area added is 40 sq m or less and the remaining private open space meets the minimum, but exemptions are lost on protected structures, some previous extensions and certain site conditions. We tell you at the site visit whether your project looks exempt and coordinate with an architect or engineer where a planning application is needed.
Who manages the trades on a renovation?
We do. You deal with one point of contact for the whole project. Carpenters, groundworkers, electricians, plumbers, plasterers and tilers are booked, sequenced and supervised by us, so you are never chasing a trade or holding the programme together yourself.
What areas do you cover?
Donie Murphy Contracting works across Kildare, including Naas, Newbridge, Celbridge, Maynooth and Leixlip; Dublin, including Lucan, Clondalkin and Citywest; Meath, covering Trim, Ashbourne and Navan; Westmeath, covering Mullingar and Athlone; and Offaly. Staying within this radius is how we keep every site properly supervised.
Do you build new houses as well as renovate?
Yes. We build one-off houses from groundworks to handover, including foundations, frame, roof, first and second fix carpentry and interiors. As a new build contractor in Kildare we work with your architect and engineer from the start so the build follows the drawings and the certification is clean.
Do you offer plant hire in Kildare, Dublin and Meath?
Yes. Plant and machinery hire is available for construction, groundworks and landscaping across Kildare, Dublin, Meath, Westmeath and Offaly. Tell us the site conditions and the work involved and we will advise on the right machine, supplied with or without an operator.
How do I get an estimate?
Call (087) 192 8495 or send the estimate form on this site. We reply within 24 hours and arrange a site visit at a time that suits. Every estimate starts with a site visit, so we can see the job properly and give you a figure you can rely on, followed by a written fixed price and programme.
Are you insured and how long have you been trading?
Yes. Full public liability insurance, working to current Irish building regulations. Noel Murphy has over 30 years in carpentry, residential construction and project management, including running his own construction company.
How do you keep a renovation to programme?
The programme is set before the first day on site and trades are booked against it rather than called in as we go. Materials are ordered ahead of the sequence they are needed in, and you get a straight answer the same week if anything moves.
What happens when the job is finished?
A final walkthrough with you before the last payment. We agree a snag list together and put everything on it right. Your contract also carries a 12-month defects period, so anything that shows up later is covered.
